North American Campaigns Supported by NAISMA

Welcome to NAISMA’s supported campaigns page, where we highlight key initiatives aimed at preventing the spread of invasive species across North America.

In addition to PlayCleanGo®, WorkCleanGo, and National Invasive Species Awareness Week, NAISMA proudly supports the following campaigns:

1. Don’t Move Firewood:
Nature Conservancy
Moving firewood can unintentionally transport invasive pests and pathogens, posing a significant threat to our forests and natural ecosystems. The Don’t Move Firewood campaign educates individuals about the risks associated with transporting firewood and promotes responsible firewood practices, such as burning local wood and avoiding long-distance transportation. By following these guidelines, we can help prevent the spread of invasive species and protect our forests for future generations.

2. Clean, Drain, Dry:
Wildlife Forever
Aquatic invasive species, such as zebra mussels and Eurasian watermilfoil, can hitch a ride on boats, trailers, and fishing gear, leading to their introduction and establishment in new waterways. The Clean. Drain. Dry. initiative encourages boaters, anglers, and water recreationists to thoroughly clean, drain, and dry their equipment before moving it between waterbodies. By taking these simple steps, we can reduce the risk of spreading aquatic invasive species and preserve the health of our lakes, rivers, and streams.

3. Squeal on Pigs!:
U.S. Department of Agriculture National Feral Swine Damage Management Program
Feral swine, also known as wild pigs, can cause significant damage to agricultural crops, natural habitats, and native wildlife populations. The Squeal on Pigs! campaign aims to raise awareness about the dangers of feral swine and discourage the intentional or accidental release of pigs into the wild. By preventing the establishment of feral swine populations, we can mitigate their negative impacts and protect our ecosystems.

4. Don’t Let It Loose:
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Releasing non-native pets and plants into the wild can have disastrous consequences for native species and ecosystems. The Don’t Let It Loose campaign educates pet owners, gardeners, and outdoor enthusiasts about the importance of responsible pet ownership and plant management.

5. Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers!™:
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers!™
is a national campaign focused on raising awareness about the risks associated with aquatic invasive species (AIS) and promoting preventative measures to stop their spread. By providing educational resources and outreach materials, Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers!™ empowers individuals to take action to protect our waterways.

6. Habitatitude™:
Pet Advocacy Network, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
Habitatitude™ is a public outreach campaign that encourages responsible pet ownership
and plant management to prevent the release of non-native species into
the wild. Habitatitude™ educates pet owners, aquarium hobbyists,
and gardeners about the potential consequences of releasing non-native
species into natural habitats.

7. Hungry Pests:
APHIS USDA
Hungry Pests is a national campaign focused on raising awareness about the threats posed by invasive insects. This campaign advocates for proactive measures to prevent the introduction of invasive insects through agricultural and horticultural practices.

At NAISMA, we believe that collective action is essential for effective invasive species management. By supporting these endorsed campaigns and promoting responsible behaviors, we can work together to prevent the spread of invasive species and safeguard the health of our natural world.
