National Invasive Species Awareness Week 2024

In the conservation of our ecosystems, knowledge is power. As we stand on the precipice of another National Invasive Species Awareness Week (NISAW), it’s time to rally together and amplify our efforts to combat the silent invaders threatening our biodiversity. Hosted by the North American Invasive Species Management Association (NAISMA) from February 26, 2024 – March 1, 2024, NISAW 2024 promises a week filled with educational initiatives, community engagement, and a shared commitment to protecting our natural heritage.

Why NISAW Matters: Shining a Spotlight on Invasive Species

Invasive species pose a significant threat to ecosystems worldwide, outcompeting native flora and fauna, disrupting natural habitats, and causing irreparable ecological harm. NISAW serves as a crucial platform to raise awareness about the impact of invasive species, empowering individuals, communities, and organizations to take action.

Key Objectives of NISAW 2024:

How You Can Get Involved:

  1. Attend Events: Check the NISAW 2024 event calendar for a diverse range of activities, including webinars, workshops, and community events. Participation is a powerful way to enhance your understanding of invasive species and connect with like-minded individuals.
  2. Contact Your U.S. Senators and Representatives: It’s easy to contact your U.S. Senators and Representatives to ask for support! On each NISAW policy page there is a link to “take action” with a form to directly contact your Senators and Representatives. When you type in your address, the form will automatically send a pre-written message about the policy issue to your delegates in Congress. Once you’ve completed the form, share the link on social media and encourage others to do the same! https://www.facebook.com/invasivespeciesweek #nationalinvasivespeciesawarenessweek
  3. Educate Others: Host educational sessions in your community, workplace, or school. Use NISAW as an opportunity to teach others about the threats posed by invasive species and the role each person can play in prevention. Post your events on the NISAW calendar and promote the good work you are doing!
  4. Spread the Word: Use your voice to amplify the message. NAISMA’s free toolkit makes it easy to advocate and spread the word about invasive species! Simply visit NISAW.org for a variety of graphics and sample social media posts. Share NISAW content on social media, engage in conversations with friends and colleagues, and leverage your networks to raise awareness about the impact of invasive species. Don’t forget to add the hashtag #NISAW2024 and follow us on Facebook to share our posts.
  5. Support NISAW: There’s still time to join us as a NISAW sponsor or donor! Sponsoring NISAW allows your brand to get further reach through logo placement on our NAISMA.org and NISAW.org. There’s power in partnership – sponsorship between two aligned organizations can make a huge difference for our causes. Individuals are also encouraged to make a donation to NISAW! Giving back helps us spread the word and increase awareness about the dangers of invasive species. With your support, NISAW can change the environment and the world for the better. Thank you to current sponsors and donors who have already committed to supporting NISAW 2024!

National Invasive Species Awareness Week (NISAW) is more than an event—it’s a call to action. As stewards of our planet, it is our collective responsibility to protect the natural balance of our ecosystems. NISAW 2024 provides a platform to join forces, share knowledge, and implement effective strategies to curb the spread of invasive species. Let’s work together to ensure a healthier, more resilient environment for future generations. Mark your calendars, spread the word, and let’s make NISAW 2024 a resounding success!
